It’s my favorite time of year here in Palm Springs which means one thing…Modernism Week is right around the corner! Each year Palm Springs hosts thousands of Modernists in October for Modernism Fall Preview and again in February for 10 days of tours, lectures, parties, and history. It’s a mid century modern dream!
The first year we were in the desert we took part in a Fall Preview Bike tour sponsored by local solar company, Hot Purple Energy. The ride took us through 3 iconic neighborhoods (including the one Chris lived in a the time) and ended back at a friend’s tiki bar, Bootlegger, for Rum Punch. How can one possibly be mad at a morning like that???
Last year, for February Modernism, we did the bike tour (it’s a fun tradition now) and checked out a few of my favorite homes in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood before heading to CAMP, a sort of headquarters for Modernism Week, for a Glenfiddich Scotch tasting. Seriously, how cool is it to do a Scotch tasting on a Saturday afternoon??? Since the phenomena of Mad Men there is a resurgence in Scotch drinking and it was so interesting to learn about the aging process as well as how to drink it (FYI, I was NOT a Scotch fan going into the event but knew Chris would enjoy it). We also were fortunate enough to attend the Hautelook x Modernism Week party at the new Desert Eichler homes that were completed early last year. The party was a fashionable who’s who of the blogging world: Kelly Golightly, Devon Rachel, M Loves M, Could I Have That, and Fashion Trends Daily were all there soaking up the mid century modern vibes.
This year’s Modernism Week is already shaping up to be yet another fabulous year. I am most excited to check out the West Elm House designed for Modernism, see the unveiling of the annual Christopher Kennedy Compound (which this year is Villa Golightly, the new home of Kelly and her husband, Fred), the Tiki A-Go-Go Party, and the tour of the Koerner House, where we were lucky enough to shoot this look.
There are still tickets available to a variety of events. Check out all available events HERE and don’t forget to purchase soon so you don’t miss out on all the fun!
XO, Niki
