How to Transition to Fall When It’s Still Hot

Raise your hand if you scroll through Instagram and get a little jealous of everyone pulling out sweaters, blanket scarves, and booties.  I know I do!  As a lover of Fall (hello pumpkin everything) one of the most difficult things for me living in Palm Springs is the total lack of the season.  I sit back and watch other bloggers pull out the pumpkins, the mumms, post about the rain and just think myself, I wish!  This year instead of hoping that Mother Nature dumps a ton of rain way by mistake I have decided to look for ways to transition my wardrobe for the climate I have…and I know I am not the only one still dealing with heat and humidity!

So  how am I transitioning my wardrobe this year?

  1. Swap the sandals for light color booties – Yes, sandals are the easy choice when it’s 100 degrees but a light colored, low bootie won’t kill you and screams “Fall is coming!”
  2. Change up your colors – One of the easiest ways to create that Autumn vibe is to tuck away your bright, Summery colors and incorporate shades of Goldenrod, Olive, Burnt Orange, and Burgundy.  I grabbed a few tees and tanks in these shades that are light enough to wear now that give me those changing leaves feels.
  3. Bring on the light layers – While chunky sweaters and plaid blanket scarves may not be in your immediate future you can still mix tissue weight cashmere with dark denim shorts or add a jean jacket over a dress for that Fall layered look.
  4. Switch out your bag – I am a big fan of straw bags in the Summertime and yes, there are ways to incorporate them year round but if you are really wanting to channel your inner Fall swap that straw bag for a bucket bag in a deep shade or a rich brown crossbody.

Do you have any other tips to dressing for Fall this time of year?  Let me know!

XO, Niki
