The Evolution of The Birthday Dress (Plus my 100th Post!)

Birthday Dress: (noun) A dress or dresses purchased for the sole purpose of being worn on one’s birthday.  Also known as the “look at me” dress.

I am not really sure how my tradition of a birthday dress started.  I guess I will blame the dress I found right before my 26th birthday. I fell in love with a Limited brand champagne gold strapless dress, I bought it and justified the cost by saying “I can wear it for my 26th!”  The dress made it’s only appearance for dinner and rooftop drinks at the Standard in Downtown LA.  When 27 rolled around I had a 3 day Vegas adventure planned and could not fathom the idea of wearing a dress I already owned, so I bought 2 new ones.  As I have gotten older my dresses and parties have changed.  My 20s were trips to Miami and Vegas with short, strapless dresses, usually from Express.  My 30th was the last year I went short and tight for my Flirty 30 Pink Party.  Now, safely into the 30s my dresses have been softer and more age appropriate and the parties have gone from jet setting to dinners with close friends and I couldn’t be happier!

26 – Limited Champagne Gold Strapless with gold Jessica Simpson peep toe heels for drinks at The Standard in LA.

27 – Hot Pink strapless from The Limited with studded belt and peep toe heels, Grey ruffle tiered strapless from Express with silver Chinese Laundry strappy heels in Vegas.

28 – Black “Leather” strapless from Express with peep toe booties, gun-metal Gray Shimmer strapless from Express with Guess peep toe sling backs in Miami and  Gold Strapless from Wet Seal with the Guess sling backs in Vegas.

BD4 BD529 – Cobalt blue silk kaftan dress from a boutique in Beverly Hills and gold strappy Steve Madden heels for dinner at Eveleigh in Hollywood.

30 – I had lost a bunch of weight (no idea how!) and wanted to show that off so I wore a hot pink, short and strapless bandage dress from Angl with strappy black Joey O heels for my Flirty 30 Pink Party at Rock & Reilly’s on Sunset.

31 – My first “grown up” birthday was just a dinner for my closest friends at the Mission Inn.  The dress was an orange and black hi-lo dress from Leroy’s in Lake Arrowhead with my Joey O heels.

32 – I borrowed this multi-color Arden B dress from Jenna and pulled out my go-to Joey O heels for our dinner at Strand House in Manhattan Beach.
