The Evolution of The Birthday Dress (Plus my 100th Post!)

Birthday Dress: (noun) A dress or dresses purchased for the sole purpose of being worn on one’s birthday.  Also known as the “look at me” dress.

I am not really sure how my tradition of a birthday dress started.  I guess I will blame the dress I found right before my 26th birthday. I fell in love with a Limited brand champagne gold strapless dress, I bought it and justified the cost by saying “I can wear it for my 26th!”  The dress made it’s only appearance for dinner and rooftop drinks at the Standard in Downtown LA.  When 27 rolled around I had a 3 day Vegas adventure planned and could not fathom the idea of wearing a dress I already owned, so I bought 2 new ones.  As I have gotten older my dresses and parties have changed.  My 20s were trips to Miami and Vegas with short, strapless dresses, usually from Express.  My 30th was the last year I went short and tight for my Flirty 30 Pink Party.  Now, safely into the 30s my dresses have been softer and more age appropriate and the parties have gone from jet setting to dinners with close friends and I couldn’t be happier!
