TGIF, y’all! I’d ask if someone could get me a margarita (or three) but I am on a wine kick tonight. But speaking of margaritas and yummy guac let me tell you about a little place Chris and I checked out earlier this week, Soul of Mexico. I have been hearing about this place for almost a year now and we finally had a free night (on the East side of the Valley) and gave it a try since this LA lady loves some Mexican food. Soul is located on Jefferson and Fred Waring which is a little far for day to day but a great after work (or pre Coachella) option for skinny margaritas, cervezas, and of course, the guac. Have I ever shared my deep and endless love for guac with you guys? If not, I apologize that I left out such important information for the past 3 years.
Soul of Mexico has such a cool ambiance with equipale chairs, star shaped lighting, great art, and plenty of TVs to catch any sporting event you can think of. We sat at a table near the bar and ordered chips and guacamole (duh), the queso fundido (a guilty pleasure…who doesn’t love ooey, gooey cheese??), and shared street tacos. I had a skinny margarita and Chris had a shot of tequila plus a Modelo…for good measure. The service was beyond attentive and the food was SO GOOD! I stuffed my face and am pretty sure I left no crumbs behind…sorry not sorry. The menu was fairly extensive and included taco plats, sopas, salad, burritos, ceviche (another fave) and combo plates with enchilladas. We weren’t starving the night we went and our order of apps was perfectly filling for both of us.
If you are attending Coachella be sure to stop in for a pre or post festival meal!
